Melanie Burwell

Melanie Burwell has been performing in theater productions since the age of 15. Being a singer, actor, director, and writer, she knows what the people are looking for when it comes to the stage. As a Theater Performance major graduate from North Carolina Central University, she has performed, written, directed, and choreographed in many of the theater department productions. She has also worked with the National Black Theater Festival for the last 6 years under such actors as Laman Rucker and Phylicia Rashad. Melanie has graced the stage in such productions as The Color Purple, For Colored Girls, Mama's Child, and Sarafina. She has written and directed plays such as Behind These Walls, Emmitt, and The Diary of Eve. Most recently, she is the writer, director and producer of the new domestic awareness play What Kind of Man. She says thank you to all who helped make this play happen.
"I want to be a thought-provoking writer. My goal in life is to make you aware of real-life situations that society will not address. I want to put that uneasiness in front of the audience and invoke real reactions to the portrayed circumstances. If I made you uncomfortable, I have done my job as an artist."
